Child Sponsorship

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) has been in war since 1996, which has had an enormous impact on the living conditions of people. Many children and youth have been forced to become war soldiers while many others have been displaced internally and others have been living in refugee camps. Many high school graduates in DR Congo have lost hope for furthering their education due to the high cost of attending school.

We strongly believe that a good primary, high school and university education not only is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and can create a better future for children and their families but that it can empower young people to gain the skills they need to secure dignified employment and income. We invite you to sponsor a student and invest in the future of DR Congo and Africa, one youth at a time.

Your donation of only $40/month ($480/year) provides one of these precious children with:

  • School fees, a uniform & educational supplies, basic medical care as needed and a loving community at the Congo for Christ Centre.

Many of our children live too far away to travel each day for education or are orphaned or in a rescue situation. You can provide a special opportunity for a child (full room and board at Congo for Christ Centre) as well as education for $80 per month.

Youth Sponsorship

To sponsor a student in High School, the cost of one full year is $480 (this includes school fees, uniform, educational supplies and basic medical care). You may choose to pay this on a monthly basis at $40/month or annually ($480).

To sponsor a University student, the cost of one academic year (2 semesters) is CAD$2,700 or US$2,000. You may choose to pay this on a monthly basis for CAD$225/month or US $166/month (this includes school fees, educational supplies, food and accommodation). You also have the option to cosponsor a university student for $1,350/year or $113/month.

To sponsor a youth for an Apprenticeship program (6 to 12 months), please contact us as the cost differs between programs.  Apprenticeship programs generally cost less than one year of university.

Mango Tree School

In partnership with Congo for Christ Centre in Uvira, DR Congo, we provide solid Christian based education to more than 300 children at Mango Tree. 90% of them come from families with parents who can not afford to pay school fees and other educational related needs for their children. We rely on the love and support of donors to offer such children and their families a learning opportunity that they would otherwise not have. Join us to make these children’s educational dreams possible.

Staple Food Program

MF has launched the Staple Foods Program to provide monthly staple foods to our sponsored children and those in the community at risk of malnutrition including rice, corn flour, beans, salt and cooking oil. For CAD$40 (US $30), you can feed a child for 30 days.

School Meals

At Mango Tree School, children often miss school due to hunger and related health complications. We are addressing this by providing breakfast and lunch to our sponsored children. We would like to extend this program to every student at Mango Tree School. For CAD$40 (US $30), you can provide meals for a child for a full month.

Special Meals Days

Many children who attend our school come hungry and have no hope of even having a meal when they return from school. Studies show that a least 2 out of every 5 children in Eastern DR Congo are malnourished. The numbers are believed to be high than this the areas where war continues to ravage. The effects of malnutrition and hunger on child development are widely known.

Giving Opportunities

The school currently has 300 children, 50 of whom live at the Congo for Christ Centre. The buildings require maintenance and there is a need to expand the solar panel system to provide children with computer literacy skills and access to the internet.
